Huang Chi-bin - 若無你我欲去佗位 Practice Notes
Before I formally practice a song, I always play quarter-note triplets to warm up my hands.
After warming up, don't rush to play along with the track. First, work through each section slowly until the rhythms and sticking patterns are steady.
Once they're stable, practicing with the music will be much easier.
Let's start with the verse groove.
Next is an alternate verse groove.
For the fourth beat here I use the sticking: L L R R
This sticking makes the transition into the next bar smoother — give it a try.
Now practice the fill leading into the chorus.
If it feels awkward, lower the BPM by 10 for now,
practice the rhythm and sticking slowly, and then gradually increase the speed once it's comfortable.
Next we're getting into the chorus.
Repeat bars 3–4 to connect the earlier groove with the lead-in fill.
You can also follow the indicated sticking to make it easier to master.
Here’s the next fill.
This song has many sequences of 16th notes + 32nd-note groupings.
If those feel tricky, practice the basic exercises below to lock in the sticking before returning to the song’s fills.
Next is the final fill — almost done!
Finally, the Outro.
That's a wrap! 🥁
Once each section is comfortable, try playing the whole song along with the music.
